When you let someone into your house in order to fix your HVAC system, you have a right to expect them to be courteous, professional and efficient. In addition to fixing the problem in a reasonable period of time, you also want a contractor who isn’t going to make multiple visits because they forgot something or have to be somewhere else. You want that person to show up on time, speak with you in a polite manner and get the work done. However, not all HVAC contractors satisfy these requirements. Here are certain things that an HVAC contractor will never do:
- Show Up Two Hours Late: Sometimes, people do get stuck in traffic or are delayed because of other reasons. But there’s a difference between showing up 15 minutes late and showing up two hours late. You may be able to tolerate the former but there’s no reason why you should be ok with the latter.
- Refuse to Give You Accurate Numbers: If an HVAC contractor shows up and tells you what’s wrong with your HVAC system, they should also be able to tell you how much it’s going to cost to fix it. Yes, this number is not set in stone but most good HVAC contractors will be able to give you an estimate. If your contractor is being deliberately vague about this, then you should think twice before hiring them.
- Promise You the Moon for a Small Price: In general, you get what you pay for when it comes to HVAC repairs and installation. If a contractor is promising you a lot for a small price, that should set off warning bells because they may be trying to sell you used parts or an outdated HVAC system. Sometimes, it is possible to get a good deal on whatever you’re trying to purchase but you should probably inquire a little more before saying “yes” automatically.
